McNairy County Democratic Party Convention and Caucus

The McNairy County Democratic Party will host a County Convention at noon on March 10 at the McNairy County Democratic Party Headquarters in Selmer to begin delegate elections for the 2012 Democratic National Convention. Following the adjournment of the County Convention, the McNairy County Democratic Executive Committee will convene a meeting to nominate the Democratic nominees for County Mayor and Assessor of Property.

Registration for the County Convention will begin at 11:00 AM. The local convention will be open to any bona fide Democrat in McNairy County. Any Democrat wishing to become a delegate to the 2012 Democratic National Convention must vote in the March 6 Democratic Primary and declare their candidacy by filling out a Statement of Candidacy and Pledge of Support Form available at www.TNDP.org. Completed forms must be returned by March 1.

On March 10, participants at the county convention will elect a group of county representatives to attend the Congressional District Convention to be held on March 24. Representatives elected from each county in the Congressional District, based on 2010 lines, will elect the Delegates to the Democratic National Convention. Locations for the March 24 Congressional District Conventions will be announced at the County Convention.

At approximately 12:30, the Convention will be adjourned and the County Caucus will convene for the purpose of nominating candidates to run as the Democratic Nominee for County Mayor and Assessor of Property.  Potential candidates will be given an opportunity to speak and then nominations will be accepted. Any candidates interested in being nominated are encouraged to contact County Chairman Jeff Lipford at 731-646-1158. The qualifying petitions for the County Mayor and Assessor of Property candidates will then be due to the Election Commission by noon on April 5.
